Designed with strong environmental storytelling, intuitive traversal, and a balance of tension and discovery, this project showcases cinematic pacing, player-driven exploration, and immersive world-building—key pillars of engaging level design.
Uncharted-Inspired Level Design: Giant's Gullet
Concept & Environment Design
Set in a remote, storm-beaten coastal region, this level is inspired by the rugged landscapes of northern Spain—where towering rock walls, misty cliffs, and dark waters create an ominous yet captivating atmosphere. At the heart of the scene lies a megalithic gorge, a natural gateway that funnels the player’s path toward a looming lighthouse, standing as both a beacon and a mystery waiting to be unraveled.
Scattered across the environment are floating stones, seemingly suspended in defiance of gravity. Their presence introduces an unsettling, almost alien element to the world, sparking the player’s curiosity and reinforcing the narrative’s supernatural undertones.
Design Intentions
Giant’s Gullet is designed to be both cinematic and explorative, blending natural and supernatural elements to create an immersive sense of mystery and adventure. The level encourages players to engage with their surroundings both physically and mentally, reinforcing themes of curiosity, discovery, and the unknown.
